Protecting content

Protect a page or post

Updated September 27, 2026 2 min read Plugin v1.1.0

Goal: lock one page while the rest of the site stays public.

Use this for: a pricing page for specific clients, a document for one team, a page not ready to launch.

Option A: from the page editor (fastest)

  1. Edit the page.
  2. Find the Password Protection box in the sidebar.
  3. Tick Protect this page with a password.
  4. Enter a password.
  5. Update the page.

Option B: from the Passwords screen (more control)

  1. Go to Password Protected → Passwords.
  2. Fill in the form:
    • Label — a name for your reference, e.g. “Pricing page — Acme”
    • Scope — choose Pages
    • Scope ID / Post Title — search for and select the page
    • Password — the password itself
    • Status — Active
  3. Optionally set Active from / Active until dates.
  4. Optionally tick roles under Role bypass.
  5. Click Add password.

Option B is the one to use if you want a schedule, a role bypass, or several passwords on the same page.

What happens

Only that page asks for a password. Everything else stays public.

If the whole site is also protected, the page-specific password takes precedence — the more specific rule wins.

Per-page protection from the editor

Pages have a Password Protection box in the editor sidebar, so you can protect a page while writing it without visiting the plugin screens. Tick the box, enter a password, and update the page.

Leaving the password field blank keeps the existing password. Unticking the box removes protection.
